COVID Updates, January 2022

Announcement Date:
Thursday, January 13, 2022 - 15:45

UNM has adopted the new CDC and NMDOH guidance related to isolation and quarantine for positive tests, symptoms, and exposures.  The detailed guidance is available on Bringing Back the Pack (https://bringbackthepack.unm.edu/employees/managing-exposure-and-positive-cases.html).  Among the recent changes:

  • Individuals who test positive must isolate for 5 days following their positive test, and may return to campus after the 5 day isolation period if they are not experiencing any symptoms.  If they’ve had a fever, they need to also isolate until the fever has been gone for 24 hours.
    • Employees who test positive are no longer required to receive a return to work clearance from the COVID Call Center – as long as they’ve completed the required isolation and are not experiencing symptoms, they may return to campus.
  • The COVID Call Center has implemented a new online symptom reporting tool that allows employees to report their symptoms and get recommendations on isolation and testing, and if needed, to have tests scheduled.  This should alleviate the issue of symptomatic employees not being able to get through to the call center and not being able to find testing options.
    • The link to the online symptom report is: https://redcap.link/CCC_Symptomatic_testing_scheduling
    • The Call Center has also significantly increased its testing capacity while also reducing turnaround time, so this remains our best option for employees who are experiencing symptoms.
